| On this site, you will find information on saltwater
fly fishing for Striped Bass,
Bluefish, False Albacore, Bonito, Mackerel, Pollock, Weakfish, Tautog,
little tunny, false albicore, and any other sports fish
that might linger into the waters of Cape Cod Bay or Nantucket Sound.
Fatsfishing on
the flats is great around Massachusetts, Marthas Vineyard and Nantucket.
Striped Bass also known as Stripers venture into the Massachusetts Bay
water in Early Spring through early Summer, then feed on Saltwater
naturals on the flats and rips offshore. Fishermen can find abundant bait
that the bluefish and stripers will chase. Flyfishing is extremely
enjoyable from the surf or the beach as well as wading the flats on the
bayside or prying the surf on Nauset beach or Monomoy Island.
False Albacore,
sometimes spelled False Albicore, venture into our waters in late Summer
to Early fall. these fish are great on flies. They have tremendous power
and can take hundreds of feet off your spool in no time. Bonito do the
same and arrive in Nantucket sound around the same time period. They chase
giant schools of bait (pogies and silversides) up and down the beaches and
bays of New England.
For some great
fun on the right tide, try flatsfishing. There is not much more fun than
watching the striped bass or bluefish chase down your fly and smash it.
Bonito, Bluefish, false albicore and even Jacks can be great surface fish
for flyfishing. Choosing the correct flies is important too. Flies come in
all shapes and sizes. Make sure you have a large assortment of flies.
Saltwater Flies are tied on stainless hooks. Early season flies include
sandeels and squid. Clousers and Crabs are also important flies to have in
your box.
Flyfishing on
monomoy in the rips can be great fun using using imitations of large
pelagic naturals. As compared to flatsfishing, it is a wild ride on some
rough water. Its some of the most exciting flyfishing you will ever
do.

Hurricanes are regular occurances on Cape cod. Keep an eye on the
weather because hurricanes can strike anywhere from Early June through
Late November. See the hurricanes page on Striperblues.com.
Tides, and weather are important elements in determining feeding
patterns for all the fish in the sea. Tide and weather create ocean
currents and lead to feeding cycles of many sports fish. Little tunny will
follow rips and tides regularly.
Stripers, blues, bluefish, bonito and False Albicore (or Albacore,
little tunny) follow the tide patterns and will pursue naturals in and out
of underwater traps and estuaries.
Stripers love to eat sandeels. It's one of their favorite flats food.
Also, flatsfishing can also be fun when squid are running. Try a squid fly
or a large fluffy white bunny fly when squid shy away from your sand eel
natural fly patterns.
