Start this year with sand-eel and squid patterns for those early season Bass. |
![]() This "Shady Lady" squid pattern is deadly during the months of April and May when Squid are abundant in Cape Cod Waters. I have also used squid patterns to attract lethargic stripers when sand-eels won't produce in sand-eel saturated water. [INSTRUCTIONS] |
Rattler
- Sand-Eel pattern: Sand Lances (or sand eels) have got to be the
favorite food of the Barnstable Flats Stripers. I've seen days on the
flats when, at low tide, the sand is littered with thousands of dead and
dying lances, left high and dry when the quickly moving tide stranded
them. Their schools are large and contain fish of various sizes. There are
days when the stripers will only feed on one particular size, so you
better have a good selection in your box.

My
favorite reference for some of the most productive patterns in Cape Cod is
a sturdy hardcover book by George Roberts. Not only has he embellished
the pages with beautiful renditions of natural forage for Game Fish, but
he includes precise instructions, and notes on feeding habits and
presentation.
