RATTLER:

The Rattler:
Use a long hook for this one. I like a size 1 or 2 Mustad, Stainless.

Put a slight bend back in the hook at about a quarter of an inch away from the eye and place in the vice upside down.

Using a dark thread, wind the entire length of the hook from eye to bend. Under the bend attach a section of woven Mylar tubing leaving a half inch or so for a tail and about 1 1/2 inches to hold the rattle. Then, wind the thread back to the eye. Drop a tiny lead shot then the rattle (ask your favorite fly shop for a pack of PLASTIC rattlers. I am against the glass ones and I'll leave it at that) in the tubing, pinch the end and tie the other end about an eighth of an inch back from the eye. Whip finish.

Epoxy the whole thing at this time and let thoroughly dry.

Now use white thread and using the color buck tail of your choice, tie in layers along the underside of hook which is on top because your hook is in the vice upside down), starting maybe with white, then a tiny bit of purple, some olive and finally a couple peacock hurls if you want. Include flash and attach stick on eyes. Whip finish and epoxy the head.
