SHADY LADY
|
Squid: This is my attempt at Bob Popovic's Shady Lady pattern.
Tentacles:
Stretch a length of 60 pound
mono between two vises or posts of some sort. (legs of a bar stool or small chair turned
upside down work great) Wrap thread around a 1 1/2 inch section as if you were tying onto
the hook. You will have to go hand over hand with the bobbin. Its frustrating at
first,
but with practice it will come. Glue this section with head cement and let dry. At one end, tie in a ball of chenille to about a quarter inch dia. (This is used to splay out the tentacles) In pairs, tie in long saddle hackles (about 4 to
5 pairs, concave side in). Wrap these, again hand over hand with the bobbin covering butt
ends of feathers with an even taper and end up back at point where chenille ball is. Tie in
a 6-8 inch strand of cactus chenille leaving bobbin back at butt end of feathers. Wrap
Cactus chenille to bobbin, tie off, whip finish and dab with head cement. That was the hard part. Now cut the tail free and lie the exposed mono along the hook shank. Tie this on and attach another piece of cactus chenille, leaving the bobbin at the hook eye. Wrap the chenille from the bend to the eye, attach a few tufts of lambs wool or synthetic fiber to imitate the fins. Tie off, whip finish and dab with head cement. Attach stick on holographic eyes as big as you can find. That's it! No problem, huh. |
