Big Stripers On the Flats
June
1997 |
| This 33 inch Striper
was caught near Barnstable Harbor. About an hour after the tide turned, a sandbar appeared
on the flats. Beaching my canoe, I cast into the rip that formed as the water receded and
landed a nice 30 incher and then this one. Between the two fish, I had one other hit where
the fish quickly spit the fly. |

Rips form
as the tide moves over varying depths of water. shallow water moves faster than deep water
and as a resuslt, distinct lines (seams) of turbulent water form. Fish gather here on the
slow moving side and wait for baitfish to be washed into their mouths. |
